Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer is a high-performance Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis instrument developed by Sievers, a brand under Veolia. Designed specifically for water quality monitoring, it delivers exceptional analytical performance, flexible configuration options, and broad industry applicability, making it a reliable tool for pharmaceutical, microelectronics, power generation, and environmental protection sectors in water quality control and cleaning validation.
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer utilizes a combination of ultraviolet (UV)/persulfate oxidation and membrane conductivity detection technology. Its workflow is as follows:
Oxidation: UV light and persulfate completely oxidize organic matter in the sample into carbon dioxide (CO₂), which reacts with water to form carbonic acid (H₂CO₃).
Detection: A high-sensitivity membrane conductivity cell measures the change in conductivity before and after oxidation to accurately calculate the TOC value.
This technology effectively avoids interference from impurity ions, ensuring superior accuracy and precision.
Key performance specifications:
Wide dynamic detection range: 0.03 ppb to 50 ppm
Accuracy: ±2% or ±0.5 ppb (whichever is greater)
Precision (repeatability): <1% RSD
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer delivers fast analysis speeds:
Standard mode: ~2 minutes per analysis
Optional Turbo mode: Reduces analysis time to just 4 seconds, ideal for real-time monitoring and rapid feedback in online applications (e.g., recycled water monitoring).
The instrument features multiple automation functions to enhance efficiency and minimize human error, including:
Automatic calibration, validation, and data analysis
Automatic reagent adjustment (optimizes flow rate for each sample)
Method storage and streamlined operation protocols
Additionally, it requires minimal maintenance—typically only a few hours of preventive maintenance per year—and has a 12-month calibration stability period, significantly reducing long-term operational costs.
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer is available in three main models to suit different application scenarios:
Laboratory Model (Lab)
Ideal for batch sample testing in labs
Compatible with autosamplers (up to 120 sample positions)
Compact design (24.6 cm width) saves bench space
Online Model (On-Line)
Designed for continuous water system monitoring
Wall-mountable with IP-45 protection rating (suitable for harsh environments)
Dimensions: 54.9 cm (H) × 45.0 cm (W) × 26.5 cm (D)
Weight: 15.8 kg
Portable Model (Portable)
Lightweight (9.4 kg) and compact (39.5 cm H × 22.9 cm W × 46.4 cm D)
IP-21 protection rating
Easily transportable for on-site testing and troubleshooting
Additionally, the Lab and Portable models offer an optional feature—simultaneous conductivity detection, allowing users to measure both TOC and Stage 1 conductivity in a single analysis. This simplifies compliance testing for pharmaceutical water per pharmacopeia requirements.
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer complies with major global pharmacopeia standards, including:
USP <643> (United States Pharmacopeia)
EP 2.2.44 (European Pharmacopoeia)
CP (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)
JP <2.59> (Japanese Pharmacopoeia)
Its software also meets 21 CFR Part 11 and other data integrity requirements.
Pharmaceutical Industry: Monitoring Purified Water (PW) and Water for Injection (WFI); testing final rinse water in CIP/SIP validation.
Microelectronics Industry: Monitoring ultrapure water systems and recirculation loops.
Power Industry: Analyzing water quality in steam and power systems.
Environmental & Research: Testing drinking water, municipal/industrial water, and wastewater treatment.
The Sievers M9 TOC Analyzer combines precision, efficiency, flexibility, and compliance, making it an ideal solution for organic contamination monitoring in various industries. Whether used for laboratory analysis, online process control, or on-site diagnostics, it delivers reliable and accurate data.
