ABI 3500 Genetic Analyzer Introduction

System Overview

The ABI 3500 Genetic Analyzer is an 8-capillary electrophoresis system developed by Applied Biosystems (USA), utilizing the classic Sanger sequencing technology. As the current "gold standard" platform for DNA sequence analysis widely adopted by clinical laboratories and research institutions, this CE IVD and SFDA certified system integrates both sequencing and fragment analysis functions to meet stringent requirements for data accuracy and reproducibility in clinical diagnostics and basic research.

Core Technical Features

The system employs a 505nm single-wavelength solid-state long-life laser source with an 8-capillary electrophoresis system capable of reaching voltages up to 20kV. Its innovative thermal conduction system provides dynamic temperature control (18-70°C) to ensure stability during DNA fragment analysis. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology tracks critical consumables including capillaries, POP gels and buffers. Supporting multiplex detection with up to 6 fluorescent dyes, the system significantly enhances throughput and data diversity.

Performance Parameters

The ABI 3500 completes sequencing for 8 samples within 40 minutes, with daily processing capacity reaching 280 samples. Sequencing length extends to 1000-1500bp, exceeding 1000bp when using special gels. Operating environment requires 15-30°C (±2°C fluctuation) with 20-80% humidity. Instrument dimensions are 61cm(W)×61cm(D)×72cm(H), weighing approximately 82kg. Power requirements include 100-240V±10%, 50/60Hz±10%, with maximum power consumption of 371W.

Application Fields

The system is widely used for:

  • Gene mutation detection (SNPs, insertions/deletions) and clone product resequencing verification
  • Microbial typing identification (bacteria, viruses, fungi) and HLA typing
  • Genetic disease analysis (STR, MLPA, methylation, etc.)
  • Tumor gene mutation detection (KRAS, BRAF, EGFR, etc.)
  • Forensic identification and paternity testing

Software and Accessories

The system comes with Sequencing Analysis software for sequence data display and editing, Variant Reporter for mutation detection, and SeqScape for allele identification. Compatible with various reagent kits including BigDye Terminator sequencing reagents, MicroSEQ microbial identification system, and human HLA typing systems. Its data quality meets ASCO clinical standards, making it a reliable tool for clinical diagnostics and research applications.
