Waters 2487 Dual Wavelength UV/VIS Detector Introduction
The Waters 2487 Dual Wavelength UV/VIS Detector (UVD) is a high-performance liquid chromatography detection device developed by Waters Corporation. Featuring dual-wavelength synchronous detection technology, this detector offers high sensitivity, stability, and versatility, making it widely applicable in pharmaceuticals, food safety, environmental monitoring, and other fields.
Core Technologies and Performance Parameters
The detector incorporates patented trapezoidal slit flow cell design, which enhances sensitivity while effectively eliminating interference from refractive index effects. With a wavelength range of 190-700nm and 5nm bandwidth, it delivers a measurement range of 0.0001-4.0 AUFS, baseline noise <±0.35×10⁻⁵ AU, drift <1×10⁻⁴ AU/h, and linearity <5%@2.5AU. The built-in erbium nitrate filter enables wavelength calibration using four characteristic wavelengths from the deuterium lamp spectrum (256.7nm UV, 379.0nm, 521.5nm, and 656.1nm), ensuring wavelength accuracy.
Operation Modes and Functional Features
The 2487 detector supports both single-wavelength and dual-wavelength detection modes, which can be quickly switched via front panel buttons. In dual-wavelength mode, MaxPlot (maximum absorption plot) and RatioPlot (ratio plot) analyses are available - the former enhances detection sensitivity while the latter facilitates peak purity identification. The device also features UV spectrum scanning capability, allowing users to obtain sample spectra either through the flow cell or cuvette. The LCD display shows real-time chromatograms for up to 60 minutes with an intuitive user interface.
System Integration and Compliance
This detector can operate independently (Stand alone mode) or as part of a chromatography system (Part of system mode). In system mode, it connects with Millennium and other chromatography software via IEEE-488 interface, with all parameters controlled by software. The device complies with cGMP/GLP regulations and includes built-in self-test and diagnostic functions for convenient user verification and equipment validation.
Application Fields
The 2487 UV detector is used for pharmaceutical analysis including content determination and impurity detection, food safety testing for pesticide residues and illegal additives, and environmental monitoring of organic pollutants. Its dual-wavelength ratio analysis function is particularly suitable for purity identification in complex matrix samples. With compact structure and easy maintenance, this detector serves as a reliable choice for routine laboratory analysis.
