To further improve the project approval and funding work for major project types, continuously strengthen the mechanism for condensing scientific issues oriented to national major needs and the world's scientific frontiers, and constantly improve the project approval mechanism for major project types, the Department of Interdisciplinary Sciences is soliciting from the science and technology community proposals on the project approval ideas for major research plans and suggestions on the project approval fields for major projects in 2026. ### I. Project Orientation Major research plans focus on national major strategic needs and major scientific frontiers. They strengthen top-level design, condense scientific goals, gather advantageous forces, form project clusters with relatively unified goals or directions, promote interdisciplinary integration, cultivate innovative talents and teams, enhance the original innovation capability of China's basic research, and provide scientific support for national economy, social development and national security. Major projects address major scientific issues in the scientific frontiers and major needs of national economic, social, scientific and technological development as well as national security. They make forward-looking arrangements, carry out interdisciplinary and comprehensive research, give full play to the supporting and leading role, and enhance the source innovation capability of China's basic research. ### II. Requirements for Project Approval Suggestions 1. Suggestions for project approval fields should originate from common scientific issues of interdisciplinary integration or major scientific issues that can only be solved by combining interdisciplinary research methods, with the necessity and urgency of organization and implementation. 2. The condensed key scientific issues should be scientific, important, interdisciplinary and forward-looking. 3. It is expected to achieve significant breakthroughs in solving major and complex scientific issues, establishing interdisciplinary research teams, promoting the transformation of scientific research paradigms, forming new disciplinary growth points, and promoting social progress. ### III. Requirements for Submitting Project Approval Proposals 1. Please fill in the "Proposal for Major Research Plan Project Approval Ideas" (see Annex 1 for the Word template). The planned fund is 200 million yuan, the planned implementation period is from 2027 to 2034, and the competent science department is the Department of Interdisciplinary Sciences. Please fill in the relevant science departments according to the content of the proposal.
